here’s the thing: canadian comedy group picnicface wanted to make a movie. so they fund raise by dedicating rap songs/poems/skits etc. to the people that donated. cool idea. this was a while ago. i’m grossly late in hearing about this, whatever.

i’ve been working in installments through all of them because obviously, i have to. but this is the one i choose to remember forever because it is the only thing that has ever mentioned the movie powder. ever. even the movie powder had no mention of the movie powder because, of course movies don’t know they’re alive. we’ll talk about that later.

so watch these videos. or not. but definitely watch the movie powder. it will change your life. but if you have already seen the movie powder, then ssshhh. let’s place our hands on the screen and communicate in silence.

decoded

preface
i was halfway through the children of hurin before i realised i was really really bored. i returned it (also i wanted to check out my local branch since it’s reno which had been going on for nearly a year - it is gorgeous now). don’t get me wrong i’m a big fan of all things tolkien but the book wasn’t speaking to me at the moment. i don’t usually give up mid-book but this isn’t some anonymous random that i’ll forget to follow up.

actual post
of course, i know of jay-z. not too familiar with his music though, just the major ones. i started reading his auto-biography decoded at indigo today and couldn’t stop. but it costs $40 so… sorry jay-zed, like your music i will be freeloading this as well.

the book isn’t chronological and isn’t even a typical auto-biog. he talks more about life as a hustler/rapper and how hip hop shaped their lives. he revisits what he means in his lyrics and provides context/interpretation for absolute n00bs. (it’s super cute when he clarifies that roc may sometimes refer to crack and that jake is one of the millions of names they called the blue… then quickly, the blue = police XD)

he is funny! in a comfortable, visual way. like, while explaining how he lost his drive to hustle in harsh weather and lonely streets, he says something like, “you know how people go to work and hang out at the water cooler? this gig used to be all water cooler.” (this btw is not the exact quote, i’m going by memory).

i’m not even half way through the book and it’s super quote worthy. hopefully i’ll be dropping by to finish it tomorrow.

neat vidjo. dap rapping. dapping. also, dj duty tecla. not much of a jump from sound check to actual show in terms of acknowledging people, like they’d be performing regardless of an audience.

nehrujackets:

i try to avoid posting das racist stuff here but i like this video. this was shot last week in amsterdam. stay up on dap blogging at dasracist.net
